STAT 170 - Introduction to Statistics

This is an introductory course in statistics, with a focus on data analysis. Topics include methods for collecting data, graphical and numerical descriptive statistics, correlation, linear regression, basic concepts of probability, confidence intervals and hypothesis tests for means and proportions, and chi-square tests.

Prerequisite(s): Minimum 2.0 in (MATH 105 or MATH 106 or MATH 107) or P in (NCMA 106 or NCMA 110) or (MATH 097 concurrently) or a Math Placement Score indicated below
Placement Scores: (Reading Level 5 and Writing Level 4) or (Reading Level 4 and Writing Level 4 and ENGL 099 concurrently) and (BSM2/CPT Algebra 77-120 or ACM2/QRAS 260-300 or ACM3/AAF 220-244 or A02/ACT Math 20-21 or S12/SAT Math 520-540 or PS12/PSAT Math 520-540 or HS GPA 3.0 w/in 10 years or GEDM/GED Math 165 w/in 10 years).
Course Note:

Graphing calculator required; TI 83-84 series calculator highly recommended.
A student should take either STAT 170 or STAT 215 (not both), depending on their transfer institution.
This course includes on-site proctored exam(s) for all online and/or hybrid sections. Students will need to travel to an LCC campus or request an approved non-LCC testing site (additional fees may apply) to take the exam(s).
