STPR 148 - Sterile Processing Externship 2 Credit Hour(s) / 2 Billing Hour(s) This course prepares individuals to function competently in the Sterile Processing Department in hospitals. It builds on the principles and practices taught in STPR 145 and includes on-the-job training and hands-on practice in a hospital. Successful completion of the course qualifies a student to take the national certification examination for Sterile Processing and Distribution through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
Semesters Offered: Spring Prerequisite(s): Minimum 2.5 in [STPR 145 or (CHSE 120 and CHSE 145) or concurrently] Placement Scores: Reading Level 5 and Writing Level 4 Corequisite(s): STPR 145 Course Note:
- Minimum age of 18 required.
- Completion of Bloodborne Pathogens and HIPAA Training online; information provided on course D2L site.
- Negative 2-step TB (tuberculosis) skin test within the last year.
- Student must pass an ICHAT criminal background check prior to clinical placement; information provided on course D2L site.
