STPR 148 - Sterile Processing Externship

This course prepares individuals to function competently in the Sterile Processing Department in hospitals. It builds on the principles and practices taught in STPR 145 and includes on-the-job training and hands-on practice in a hospital. Successful completion of the course qualifies a student to take the national certification examination for Sterile Processing and Distribution through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

Prerequisite(s): Minimum 2.5 in [STPR 145 or (CHSE 120 and CHSE 145) or concurrently]
Placement Scores: Reading Level 5 and Writing Level 4

Course Note:

Minimum age of 18 required.
Completion of Bloodborne Pathogens and HIPAA Training online; information provided on course D2L site.
Negative 2-step TB (tuberculosis) skin test within the last year.
Student must pass an ICHAT criminal background check prior to clinical placement; information provided on course D2L site.
