SIGN 260 - Linguistic Principles of ASL

An overview of the linguistic principles of American Sign Language (ASL) including its basic phonology, morphology, syntax, variation, results of language contact with English and other signed languages, pragmatics, bilingualism and language as art. Topics relating to interpreting, the Deaf Community, and Deaf Culture will be emphasized. Designed for students intending to become sign language interpreters.

Prerequisite(s): Minimum 2.0 in SIGN 163
